Meet the team at Avalon Event Rentals, Kelowna, BC - all of whom are 100% dedicated to making your event vision come true. Our employees are the source of our strength and our success. We act and operate around a simple premise, “Treat others as we would like to be treated”. We strive to ensure that this characteristic influences and focuses everything we do and how we treat you, our customer. 

During the month of June, to help us celebrate our 25th anniversary by giving back to our community who have supported us in so many ways over the years, our wonderful employees took it upon themselves to donate $100 per day, from the Employee of the Day, to JDRF. This is the kind of wonderful people we are privileged to have working on our team and who are all dedicated to making your event everything you wished for.

Kayla Knight - Customer Services Representative

Avalon continues to grow and we are thrilled to announce the newest member of our family: Kayla Knight. Kayla joins our team full time as a customer services representative and brings with her a wealth of experience: she has spent the past two and a half years as the catering coordinator at The Cove Lakeside Resort and previous to that you may recognize her from her time spent as a customer service/sales associate at the Harvest Golf Club. We are very lucky to have lured Kayla onboard and look forward to having her as one of our family!
 
 

 

Karly Curtis - Sales & Event Associate

Karly is one of our Sales Representative at Avalon Event Rentals, she previously worked at The Cove Lakeside Resort in the Banquet department. She has been with Avalon for almost a year now and how could we not love her awkward high fives, lunch buffets and kind heart! After work you will find Karly picking up her dog “Jersey” at Doggie Day Care, watching football games and taking deer selfies while knitting with her best friend Kayla Knight.

 
 
 
Shawn Stoesz - Operations Manager
 
Originally from the prairie flatlands of Saskatchewan, Shawn moved to the Okanagan in 2000.  Shawn has moved through the ranks at Avalon as a result of his hard work and determination and has a true passion for the Event business. Shawn is now one of the most senior members of the Avalon team and over sees all of Avalon’s set up crews, deliveries, inventory, repairs and anything the girls ask him to do in the office. Shawn holds a Diploma in Business Administration for Marketing from Okanagan College. After 15 years with Avalon, Shawn has an extensive knowledge of the rental business.  

Shawn is also the Chairman of the Avalon Fantasy Football League and a proud Father. You can find many of Shawn's half full mugs of coffee around the warehouse.

 

Sue Foote - Controller & Purchasing Manager

Sue has been at Avalon forever. Sue grew up outside of Vancouver and prior to working with Avalon, had 13 years of experience in Accounting. Sue started with Avalon in the Summer of 1996 after being referred by a co-worker at Cedar Creek Winery. Sue was intrigued by the rental business and it was the beginning of a new chapter in her life. From festivals to logging shows, weddings to culinary and wine events, Sue enjoys working on various events around the Okanagan and loves that every day brings something new! In her every day work, Sue chases outstanding money and has Avalon’s entire inventory catalogue in her brain. Sue also helps oversee Avalon’s Front Desk team and preparation and collection of orders along with sourcing and purchasing of new inventory. Sue enjoys a good double-double from Timmies, hikes with her Dog Sophi and keeps everyone in the office happy with her baking! 
 

Brad Buchanan - Owner/President

Brad and his wife Angela purchased Avalon in 2007 and Okanagan Portable Sign Rentals in 2010.  Prior to owning Avalon, Brad held various positions at Sun-Rype Products Limited for over 17 years, including Vice President Sales & Marketing, and Vice President Customer & Corporate Business Development. Brad holds a B.A. from the University of Manitoba and an M.B.A. from California Coast University.

Brad is also very active in the pursuits of his children. Brad has coached various levels of hockey and baseball and can often been seen running his kids all over town.

Brad and his wife Angela met while working at Sun Rype, they have three children and are long-time Kelowna residents. 

 

Angela Buchanan - Owner/Vice President Finance

Angie is a long time Kelowna resident.  After graduating from Okanagan College with a Diploma in Marketing & Management, she joined BC Tree Fruits and also went on to work with Sun Rype Products Ltd. This is also where she met her husband Brad. While at Sun-Rype, Angie held numerous positions in the Sales and Marketing Departments and ultimately ended up in a management position in the Finance Department. Brad and Angie have three kids and purchased Avalon in 2007. Along with working in the family business making sure everyone stays in line and the bills are paid, Angela can also be seen running her kids all over to various sporting and school events while also running a small laundry business out of their home!

The Buchanan Family is also very active with The Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. After their youngest child, Amy, was diagnosed with Type 1 Diabetes at 10 months old, Brad and Angela began volunteering in many capacities including Gala Chair, National Chair for The Telus Walk to Cure Diabetes and acting as mentors in JDRF’s Outreach Programs, providing support to other families affected with Juvenile Diabetes. 

 

Gary Sweetman - Warehouse Supervisor

Born some time ago in another country, Gary and his wife Pam have lived in Kelowna for over 20 years now, and all of those have been in the rental business. Gary and Pam sold Kelowna Party Rentals in 2012 to Brad and Angela. Gary continues to work with Avalon and shares his vast knowledge and skills in the warehouse while keeping everyone entertained. Gary and Pam have 2 children and are also proud Grandparents. 
 

If you would ever find yourself in a conversation with Gary, don’t be afraid to point out he has an accent!

Originally from the Kootenays, Brad started in the rental business back in 1986 in Calgary, Alberta. He moved to the Okanagan Valley in the summer of 1992 to open his own rental stores which were in operation for 13 years in Kelowna and Kamloops. Brad has been the Operations Manager of Okanagan Portable Sign Rentals since 2008. With over 28 years of experience in the customer service industry, Brad has a passion for going above and beyond for his customers! “Customer service & satisfaction is the key to running successful business”
